Wow!

There is so much good stuff to read and think about in this article. I think the simplest way to say what I mean would be to use YOUR well-chosen words;

I don’t really go with this,

”Spiritual thinkers and enthusiasts have always said that spirituality is the path to God and to attain God one needs to strive hard”

because there is a very strong spiritual element within my existence, and it does not involve looking for god or even knowing if there is one or not.

”God” is not essential in my quest.

This is something I could have (wish I had?) written. I think more this way....

”We need spirituality in a form to which we can connect easily. The true aim of spirituality should be its implementation in the everyday life of human beings. Otherwise the discourses, though of great value, will not achieve their purpose”

There’s my humble opinion, and thanks for putting up your very well written and organised article....

Thanks for thieving and sinning if you want to call it that. But as a part of my spiritual principles I believe, that intentions are more decisive than the actions themselves in deciding whether one goes to heaven or hell. Since your thieving conveys that my picture is worth thieving, I am flattered once again, means you have made me happy. So you are going to heaven!

Leena, Your philosophy with respect to God as well life is absolutely practical. In fact, I see glimpses of the middle path advocated by the Buddha in this. I also think that there is nothing wrong with pleasing yourself without displeasing God. May you attain salvation. My prayers are with you!

oh thank you Vincent for your enlightening words. Actually, I am keenly interested in acquiring true spiritual knowledge. But, I see that the path prescribed usually is impractical. However, I must say some of the modern spiritual gurus have already started explaining spirituality in a form that people can practice.

Yeah Budhha’s path was very practical and very enlightening.I am interested in learning Budhhist literature too.

You know Vincent, even in Hinduism, they say that you don’t have to do any complicated pujas. You just take the name of God wherever you are and in whatever condition you are. That will lead to salvation.I keep chanting the names of my guru and Sri Krishna mentally wherever I am and whenever I can. I don’t know where it will lead me to.But thank you very much for wishing that I reach salvation. That’s a very precious blessing or wish whatever you might want to call it, for me!

The days have gone when one had to leave the society and home and leave to forests to get salvation.

The true spiritual activities can be practiced while we do our daily routine jobs like traveling to and from office, while working in office or home and doing meditation in the morning and evening.

The only hurdle is finding the true guide who has seen the path and can help us like a true teacher.

Why there are few people who have the Grace on them to have found a true teacher? It is basically our own state of mind and our desire to be truly spiritual. One can get up at 3.00 am for catching a flight on number of days but when it comes to getting up early to start doing mediation there are thousand excuses. This is because there is no intention or will to do that activity.

Only few people have that intention and have found the true teacher after searching through and enjoying the spiritual practices under the guidance.

You don’t catch a flight everyday at 3 am dr. Of course people can wake up at 3 am in the morning, if they have the strong will to. But should I wake up at 3 am in the morning to attian God? Why can’t the time be flexible. Why do I have to put in such an extra effort?

You are very correct when you say that few people have put the effort in searching for spiritual gurus. Even I am saying that few people are putting the effort because those efforts are impractical for many people. I don’t think searching for God should be such a painstaking task. We need practices which people can easily follow.

Another thing I forgot to put Dr. Saini, one gets up to board a flight at 3 in the morning out of compulsion, only if he has to. If you draw an analogy between waking up at three in the morning for catching a flight and for meditation, do you mean to say meditation should also be taken as a compulsion? Spirituality should never be accepted out of compulsion. It should be something that people should embrace out of their free will which is very important for following a spiritual path. Then only one can walk the entire path leading to God. For that offer it in a form that people will find easy to follow, first.

When we do not know how to walk we find it impossible but when we gradually learn the walk and then we can even run for hours. So what is impractical at one time is much easy at alter stage.

agreed. we need to learn to walk gradually.but by asking us to wake up at 3 in the morning you are asking us to run straight away. first the common man should be taught in steps. merely telling us the benefits of waking up at three will not make us follow it. spirituality should have the power of turning even a non-believer towards itself. for that you have to first offer it in a form that people can accept and implement. after that according to one’s preferences and capabilities one can proceed towards any extent possible.

Hi Leena,Very nice and well written article.

I was born in family of believers. As a kid I believed in God. But due to many things happened in the family I started questioning the existence of God..If God could hear prayers..God would have not been so cruel to my mom and my brother who are more spiritual than me... they had to suffer a lot in life. I was neither religious nor spiritual. But life was easier for me. I wonder why they had to suffer and not me?

Thanks for visiting and the acknowledgement. Believe me Maya I have asked the same question that you have posed here, umpteen times and could really come up with no answer. When such things happen, I really feel that God does not exist or if HE does then he is highly biased. But then, just to give myself some solace, I tell myself that luck itself is an outcome of nature’s bias or as some say it is the consequence of one’s past deeds in some other life.

I believe that spirituality or lack of it starts with an individual,if you choose to live by the ’good ways’ of the church,Mosque or any aspect of believing in God, you are appeasing you own heart and your own God,one can also decide to live against the will of God.

So spirituality to me is a matter of having a good personal relationship with Your own God, (Some people have personal gods) it doesn’t have to look like sainthood!

It our limitation which makes us believe so, especially when nothing is going as per our desires and we get jealous of others progress.

It is the faith ans state of mind which makes us happy and content not the objects of the world.

A fabulous party may become just becomes unbearable and a place to leave immediately when one gets the bad news about any friend or relative.

Thus it is up to our understanding how we look at the world around us and think about it.
