While a big, juicy steak may indeed be culinary nirvana for many, your taste for beef could be based in part on expectation rather than reality

I don’t eat beef. I can’t stand the aroma. There’s also something else I haven’t tasted in my entire life - oysters.

Really Grace? Even I can’t stand the aroma of beef.It is actually not cooked much in India, because the cow is a sacred animal for the Hindus. However, people out here commonly gorge on mutton and chicken.

Actually I am a vegetarian and have not tasted any meat items till now.

I didn’t use to be vegetarian. I used to eat chicken. Now, I only eat fish. I guess I’m not vegetarian! LOL

Yeah Grace actually I am not a vegetarian by choice. Its sort of a family tradition. In the Hindu community the diet is generally determined by the castes and family values-though there is no hard and fast rule that a person belonging to a particular caste or family should strictly adhere to its norms.

Really? Even diet is fit by caste? Wow. I learn something new. I really should read up more on the caste system. Very interesting!

Ok you eat fish. Then if you come to Kolkata you’ll get great company. Fish is a favorite item with the Bengalis out here. You can see their skins really glowing. And why not when fish oil is so good for the skin?

Diet IS determined by caste and even religion in India, but I know a whole lot of people who really don’t follow these ”rules”!!

The funny part is people actually refuse or accept matrimonial proposals based on whether a family eats non-veg or not!!! hehehe...

we’re really a funny race... but you know what, I’m determined to eat everything that can be eaten in this lifetime and I definitely wont get married to a guy who doesn’t eat MEAT!!!!

Whoa! That’s another new thing for me. Matrimonial proposals based on diet. It’s a very interesting culture!

That is correct. Diet is also determined by religion out here. I forgot to mention that.Yeah! of course what you eat is a primary determinant in matrimonial compatiblity when it comes to arranged marriages in India. Thanks for presenting the info Asmita.

What really disgusts me is that some people consider even onion and garlic as non vegetarian ! Even that becomes a major decisive factor in determining matrimonial compatiblity for some.
