Every parent wants his or her child to be the best this world has ever seen. But God grants the wishes of only a few fortunate parents. Blessed are those parents who were gifted with a Sunita Williams, a Abhinav Bindra or a Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Some attribute their exceptional success in their respective fields to their exceptional caliber while others call them sheer lucky. But that’s a different debate. Here, I want to talk about those parents who are so very obsessed with the idea of delivering ‘lucky’ children that they are taking the help of medical sciences to fulfill their desires.
The process is very simple. The would-be parents approach an astrologer with a request to identify a time when the planets are in the most favorable position for delivering the baby. The birth chart is made for the unborn child. The astrologer sets a date and a time that is very auspicious for delivering the baby. It is usually a date around the date of natural delivery of the baby. The mother is operated upon and the baby brought out of her womb exactly at the auspicious moment.
It is believed that giving birth to babies with predetermined flawless horoscopes is going to protect them from the evil influence of planets and give them tremendous success in life.
India is a country where the mass population relies heavily on astrology for predicting and deciding the course of action on major life events like education, career, marriage and material prosperity. As soon as a baby is born, its horoscope (kundli) is made and its life predicted.Earlier parents used for wait for their babies to be born naturally and then make their horoscopes. But now, they don’t want to leave anything to chance. They are making their babies come into this world with predetermined horoscopes.
There are people who say that astrological predications turn out to be true while there are people who say that astrological predictions are a pile of crap! Hence, I find it difficult to be opinionated on this. But what beats me is that delivering babies with predetermined horoscopes is an increasing trend in India and many erudite couples are opting for this. Recently, a doctor friend of mine got his baby delivered according to set astrological predictions.
I don’t really know what makes some lucky and others unlucky in this world . But do you think parents can make their children lucky by choosing their stars for them?

The cesarean aspect seems quite dangerous. Yes, c-sections are perfectly common nowdays, but they SHOULD be deemed for emergencies, or last option...surgeries created to align ones inner stars, just doesn’t make sense, there are so many risk involved for both mother and child.. I would imagine death or injury to mother or child, in this case, would be seen as a planetary misalignment...
If one wants to follow astrology, fabulous, but manipulation of nature...I just don’t see the ethics.
But tell me, I would like to ask you something, not in support of this post, but out of a general curiosity -do you think all the people who are highly successful in life in someway or the other like our celebs, and all the other prominent people of this world, are there in those positions because of their sheer hardwork or talent or whatever? I think this world has many people who are more beautiful, talented and with greater caliber than all those people sitting on top there. Why are they not getting the same recognition? Why is one extremely talented person struggling while another who is less talented on top?
You are so correct, caesarian should be used only during emergencies, but women are using it commonly- not only for astrological reasons, but also for avoiding the pain that they experience during delivery. But that is another debate.
I think life is a journey.. There are so many variables... I could sit and wonder for decades why my heard work hasn’t made me rich and powerful, isn’t my education and dedication worthy of such a delightful reward?
Maybe astrology, like religion, is only ones different perception of the same...The same path we’re all working towards, hoping our efforts will lead us to: Peace, happiness, harmony, security, health , and prosperity..
My wife reads our weekly horoscopes for fun in the Sunday paper.. I have to admit, there have been times that I sat back and thought ”holy hell, how did they know my secrets, are they spying on me?” (lol)...but I personally believe it’s just a coincidence.
Why are some more famous and less beautiful, more powerful and less educated, richer with less ambition..I don’t know..It could be being in the right place at the right time (or does that mean the planets aligned?), it could be because of one’s connections, but I tend to think it has more to do with their personal will, and want.., they’re creativity and ambition, their personal drive, not wanting to settle for what’s handed to them..
I think if we really look deep, we can each find an experience in our life, a truth (although we are not RICH AND POWERFUL) that proves to us...WE OURSELVES MADE SOMETHING HAPPEN..Something that maybe in the moment we didn’t notice we were doing it, but years later can say ” Wow, look at what I was faced with, and I still ”came out on top”...
Your post is fabulous and quite thought provoking..Now you have me wondering..If I don’t sleep tonight because I’m tossing around planets and stars among my head....hell, I can’t even finish my thought process to finish the sentence..Looks like I’m in for a long night.. :)
Talking of caesarian and other ’induced’ births, did you know that the rate of use of these techniques is extremely high here in France?
Strange but true.
The main reason seems to be (according to the mothers I know) that maternity hospitals are short staffed and overcrowded, so the sooner they can get a mother and her baby out of their bed, and out of their hospital, the better. So they induce birth where they can....
Beurk.
The French are also big fans of superstitions and astrology and stuff like that, so I just hope some french astrologer doesn’t get onto the scam going down in India.......
Hey Oscar...I respect you for respecting other people’s beliefs. But i feel parents who really love their children, should not try to manipulate their fates with some beliefs, but accept them with the fates that they come with naturally and teach them to accept life as it comes.
Nice to know that the credit for tossing planets and stars in your head goes to me!:P
The whole issue in this article is not there belief in astrology, but forcing their belief on their unborn child thru forcful, manipulation of their birthdate.
As parents, we will instill our beliefs on our children ( most of us will do this, after awaiting natural birth). I don’t find astrology to be a problem, it almost seems a to be a sidearm of ”religion” for many...Children will have these ”beleifs” instilled by the parents..When the child grows, they will decide whether to carry this beleif to the next generation...THAT is what I will not judge, I don’t believe in it...I thnk it is a money making machine, but then again, I tend to think that about most religions (Not faith or GOD/GODS just their religious translations for profit)
Which again brings me back to my belief if you want to hang your heart and hopes on the sun, stars, and moon..More power to you..If you want your child to have the same belief, I can’t stop ya, good luck....BUT ACCEPT THE CHILD FOR WHAT HE/SHE IS...GEMENI, AQUARIUS, EARTH, FIRE, WATER, WIND, RAT OR HORSE CHILD FROM THE CHINESE YEAR... The parents will make the true difference in that child’s future, they are the foundation...As the child grows, he/she will become the ultimate master of their own ”fate”.
Not the date of birth... Let the child be born, when the time is right, as naturally as possible....worry not about the sun and stars, but how to start building that solid foundation.
Geez Leena, are you trying to punish me? Don’t you realize I am already functioning with ”faulty wires and a few screws loose”, I’m gonna be a mess tomorrow after not sleeping..Pondering, pondering, but thouroughly enjoying your thoughts.
Welcome back to the conversation...you have revealed a lot of info in your latest comment. Really shortage of staff and over crowdedness is causing induced births. Really pathetic. Out here under such conditions, a woman gets a bed if lucky. Otherwise there are people who give birth on the floor of hospital corridors naturally. Nobody really bothers to induce births. Really sad. But recently there seems to be some improvement in this sorry state of affairs at least with some good government and private hospitals.
It is really interesting to know that the French too are superstitious and believe in astrology. But astrology is considered to be a science these days. Their predictions are based on so many calculations.

I do agree with you. Parents are so very obsessed with the idea of making their children rich and famous that they are trying to rule their fates...is it the ultimate form of parental control? I don’t know how much astrology will help in that. Life is definitely what you make of it. But then what is luck? Can someone define that for me? Is there something called luck and what determines that?

But I DO think that there are a lot of quack astrologers making money out of selling false hopes to all those sad people who just can’t accept the fact that life is what you make of it.
I would also be interested to know more about the busines links (they must exist) and referral arrangements between these so-called astrologers and those who do the operating.
The stars are there for us to look up at and....dream. Ant that’s the whole point.
